When the beast was directly upon him, and he could see into its glassv eves and see its teeth thirsting for his flesh, he rolled on his back and lunged violently. Roa's thrust found its mark and sunk deep into the shark's belly, ripping a long gash. Blood filled the water as the shark writhed and then went limp, sinking to the bottom. Roa kicked hard for the surface. His mouth, throat and lungs were on fire. His heart tried to beat through his chest, and. his oulse throbbed like a patu beating at his temples.
