He felt himself entering the domain of Whiro, This was the realm of the underworld and darkness and Death. He cried out, "Tangaroa, father of these mighty waters, spare me from this fate to comnlete my journey to sneak with the Supreme r-od, lo," Tangaroa heard his cry, for the whirlnool loosed Its grip on the canoe and it snun free. Roa rode out the remainder of the storm in the bottom of the canoe. The fierce motion of the waters ceased, and he drew himself x-reaklv to his knees. He was on land. The canoe had been washed, safely ashore on the northern tip of the Island Waioounamu. |
