He identifies two books of stenographic noted that were taken by him during the trip, one being a red covered book and the other a paper covered note book. The notes are all his own but the book might contain come notes that were made by him afterwards, concerning other subjects. R. 1390. Exhibit No. 175, identified by him as a map sent to him by Mr. Stanton some years ago, which is a reproduction of Stanton's survey through the Colorado river. R. 1391- 1392. Stanton being in charge of the expedition. The second trip was made for the purpose of continuing the survey commenced on the first trip, which was discontinued in July of the same year, 1389, at Vasey's Paradise, in Marble Canyon. The first trip was discontinued because after Mr. Brown was drowned there were only five persons left and they were not physically fit or well enough supplied to continue further. R. 1398- 96. Vasey's Paradise in some forty- five miles below Lee's a Ferry and the he did not see any other boats on the Green or Colorado Rivers during that trip. |
