On that day stop was made for lunch " under a cliff, and we ate and stayed in the boat." R. 1290. He arrived at Moab before dark. " Q During that day's travel did you make observations and examinations of the river, its physical characteristics and those of the bed? Did you make notations with reference to your observations? " A I made very few notations of that trip up. I was studying the river on the trip up with a different idea in mind." R. 1290. He observed much more water on the river from North Wash down to Lee's Ferry than from Moab to the confluence [ of the Green and Colorado Rivers.] From North Wash down, part of the river was considerably wider than the stretch from Moab to the mouth of the Green.
