" Some of the rapids near the initial point, near North wash, were the worst local difficulties for up stream navigation." R. 1294. He is under the impression that the worst rapid that was encountered below North wash was at mile 156 1/ 2 " but that may not have been the one." R. 1294. " Q Now, when you say that the ' worst local difficulties' were there, do you mean that was the worst place, in your opinion, for up stream navigation, or isn't that what you mean? " A Well, I mean that was the point at which there were some short pieces of river that would have been more difficult to get through per foot of length tan any other portion.
