Show Utah reported 6,878 violent crimes in 1997, increasing 3.6 percent from 1996. Utah's violent crime rate in 1997 was 334.0 per 100,000 population, which was considerably lower than the 1997 rate for the Mountain states region - 504.059 In 1997, violent crime rates in the metropolitan area consisting of Davis, Salt Lake, and Weber Counties compared higher than the state and lower than the national rates. Violent crime rates declined in recent years for most age groups. However, teenagers experience the highest rates of violent crime.
