Show Chronic Liver Disease and Cirrhosis (ICD-9 Code: 571) (1997 Total Deaths in Utah = 114) Although there have been slight annual fluctuations, the chronic liver disease and cirrhosis mortality rate in Utah has been generally declining. Utah has continually had rates substantially lower than the national rate. Lower alcohol consumption in Utah may partly account for the lower rate. Females showed an increase in mortality in 1995, but have declined since, while the male rate has shown a more sustained increase. The male rate remains higher than the female rate. This may be explained by a higher consumption of alcohol by males. Table 45. However, curvature in the U.S. rates was much smaller, while the Utah rates appeared to be on the rise. Figure 21 Chronic Liver Disease and Cirrosis Mortality 14 Age-adjusted 12--..
