Show Unemployment Rate The unemployment rate is an important measure for examining the health status of a population. Since 1988, Utah's unemployment rate has been consistently lower than both the Mountain States and the U.S. average. It is predicted that the rate will increase slightly with the anticipated state economic slowdown, but will still be well below that of the nation.2 Table 20.
