I kn w a sister in law--sister-in-law's sister she picked up a fellow and she's very happ r and sh 's still--she lives back east. My sister-inla , of course she was her sister. Jewish girl. SA But they would --they'd go out with them, but I wouldnt dare go out with anybody. I knew darn well that that wasn't the right thing for me to do. LF They went out with non jewish boys. SA YEs. I never went with any non jewish boy, never. L This is during the secondworld war. SA That's where they picked them up and that's when a lot of them got married. Jewish ones too. Nice jewish ones. L Jwish girls married ron-jewish guys ... LFWhat kind of dates did they go on. SA I really don't know because I hadn't gone on any--but they would go to dances and meet them. A lot of girls would go alone to dances but I never did. LF Do youremember their parents feel upset--- SA Well, I guess they would be. But, alot of times, I felt, if I went my parents would find out. Somebody would tell them because I was--we were very prominent here in town. And someobody would probably tell them. L SOme one would have spotted you. SA Yeah, thy did. I'll tell you, after I broke up with my boyfriend, the minute I'd go out and have a need to call me, oh, let's just go for old time's sake, come on, and I went and be darned if it wasn't every time I'd go out and I didn't want my mother and famher to know, or my family, somebody would see me and they'd come and tell my mother. Never have I ever had it that I culd it--after that I said I'd never do it again. L You wer pretty closely watched. SA I was theonly girl because I had 6 sisters and they all died and I was a very, you know, and the parents were very very fond of me because they lost so many and they ~ kind of felt like they would like to watch over me.
