A And the other brother opened a cigar and candy, the tther brother, Ben, who worked here and had a liquor store. L He opened a cigars store? Where was that. SA 0 west second south. Oh--on Second West. L WHat was that store called. SA I know it as well as I know my own name--isn't that funny, I was going to tell you what it was. [she forgot for the moment] L Where there many people during the prohibition brewing insecret. SA Do you know what they did--theybootlegged. L Did your ~~ brothers participate in that. SA o, like I said, my brother went intoceal estate. L He left the=li~eeF it altogether? SA Yes. He moved down from Evanston. And he bought real estate, lot of-- he owned big buildings in downtown salt lake. L Was any of the jewish community involved in bootlegging. SA Not that I know of because none of the jewish people, I don't believe any of them did. I don't think so--l dont know of any. L Most of pple yo knew--did most of them fuave business, small business (jewish com) SA Pracitclly everyone. L .. remember some .. SA Well, you take, Shapiro has the Shapiro trunk and bag. L Did he have it then. SA Oh, that's one of the oldest stores. Simon Shapiro is one of the oldest fellows. L And Rosenblatt had the junk shop. SAArthur Frank had the big store downtown. He carried very high brand clothes. ______ and Morris. Clothing. LF Is that still here. SA Yes, still here. Si Frank i think is still in there. And there was a brother Lou Frank. And Harry Frank. They were all in th-- you know. L In clothing. SA Yes. L What oether stores do you remember. SA Thre are very few that I don't remember. Oh, Finley's had a beautiful e!e~nift~ ladies store. Jack Finley's That the BOSTON STORE. LF do you remember a particular store you liked ... |
