Show adie Appelman 5-19-82 tape 1 SA: My name is Sadie Appleman and I have lived in Salt Lake now for the past 63 years and I have enjoyed Salt Lake andi've enjoyed the people here very very much.And mychildren love Salt Lake because they were born here and my husband was born here. You can tell I was born I just turned 83. L So youwere born in 1899. SA that's right 1899. May the 14th. I was born in M , Pennsylvania and my father, ~o~~i~er were not born in America. They were born in Austria, Hungary. Maurice and Rose Arnovitz SA They were born in Yokitof. L ~~at town is near, what are the larger towns. SA It was, like they call it, a small medina, a small town and all of the family had come but my mother's father never came here or her mother. L Is that town in Hungary or in Austria. SA In Austria. It was Austria. They always said I was born i~Austria. Austria-Hungary, that's what my futher used to say. But he was-- he came here first to America. And he brought. He came here and he worked in National Tube Company in M , Penn. And then he sent for my mother with two boys, Joe and Ben. Joe was 4~ years old and Ben was 2 years old. And he worked for quite a while and then finally, after many years, we had-- we were all born in M all he rest--like my brother. My first brother born there was my brother Max. Then my brother Mike. First my sister, my older sister, which passed on years ago during the epidemic of the flu. And left one son. A baby she had born on my birthday. And then there was my youngest brother. Finally about many years after we were there. My mother had lost a sister. She decided that -- we decided for her, she was very unhappy and was very sad. A very beautiful girl, 21 years old had died and left a baby 5 months old. And so my--she u--she wasn;t happy at all. So I wrote to my brother here in Salt Lake, that came to Salt Lake first. My oldest brother and then I wrote to him and my other brother Ben had come there. Joe had lived there--here! and my brother Ben had lived here and the two boys decided that it wouldbe a very good idea for us to come. Before that my other brother that lives here now, Michael, he came to Salt Lake with mother's sister. And she had--we had all this family here.To start with we had gotten, had my mother's youngst brother brought all of us out here. Nathan Rosenbloom. L Your mother's youngst brother. SA Baby brother.
