L At that time, can youremember who the very religious families were? SA Well, I can tell you there was naturally my parents and my aunt Davis Pearl Davis that lived here . And then there was this--the, let me see this. I could tell you right away. Of course, all the Arnovitz family my brother, youj know, they were all kosher, you know . Not-- L Except the one you lived wtih. SA he wasn't. But there was the Rosenblatts were kosher. L You mean the ones who had the junk shop. SA athan Rosenblatt. Yes. And the Nathan were very kosher. And the P ________ were very kosher. And the Gusses were kosher. L Do Mr . Gold had himself a small-SA A lovely butcher shop. Oh, he did a nice--oh, they did a beautiful business. They had a very nice business. Oh, there was many, many people, that you know, kept kosher. It was remarkable how many. The Passer has a butcher shop. Passer They were my husband's father's sister. And they had a lovely butcher shop. That was on the corner of North--wait 4th south. Right on fourt south. That was my aunt after I married my husband.That was my uncle's aunt and uncle. Oh there were so many different ones that were kosher. The Salm ____ son, Shapiros, Berkowitzs. L All kosher? SA Ah, ~hat was--they could't have had a butcher shop if they were wasn't some different--many, many people. I'm just trying to think here.Oh, and the Eisen. You know who it~ they are. Do you know Ed Eisen. Very nice fellow. The Doctormans. L This is really a much larger list than I expected ... SA Each and every one of these people I knew personally. I used to go to shul and I used to cook dinners in schul. Hanukah dinners in the little shul when we had the old shul Montefoire. Cook beautiful dinners with a lot of women. You know, very big dinners. 200-220, we'd cook a hunaukah dinner, you know for the different holida~s-- you never saw such gorgeous dinners as we used to put out. We used to make the eye of the r~, briskets, my god, filled cabbage,I made. Used to make little meat balls. |
