Show Sadie Appelman p.lO SA That's where y u used t bu Walker's--not a Jewish store, this wasn't a jewish store but it was a big store. Then they had. Let's see. Arthur Franks and then there was--oh, th Roe had a big store. Ben Roe and Harr Roe his brother. Do you know him? They had a store on Main Street, I can't remember what their store was. Harry Roe had a store on the corner of third South and -- Second-- Third South and State Stret. His brother, Ben Roe brother had a store there. A department store. [name?] Isn't that funny, I should know too. Oh, it's been so long it's been so long ago. The names of them ... And across the street from Harr Roe was Auerbachs, a big department store, jewish people. L Then there werehte pawn shops .. SA Alot of pawn shops. ~iegals. Siegal had a pawn shop. Siegal had two pawn shops. His father, Dal's father-- that's the same store andi think his son has still gt it. L Right. SA And then, wait a minute, who else. Oh and the jewish store that was -- Mednick's had a clothing store on second south. LF Alot of clothing store. SA Y--oh, and Aaron Hirsh had a store on State Street. And he just called it Hirsh's Clothes Shop is what it was. Oh, god, there were-~the whole state street [in response to 'so many clothing stores'] right now there's still Wolfe's Department sate. L Was that back then too SA Oh, that's been one-- 0 father. and of course LF sadie, of these clothing shops .. did these people do any of the tailoring. SA MeHer~ek- Hednick tailoring shop was next door to our store. We had a store downtown that's Appelman's Army andVay Store. L This is when you moved down from Bingham. SA No. This--we had the store across the street from where we had the Army Store. We bought my brother's store when he moved--when he sold out. When my brother had lived on Second South between State and Second South, we had a store first on one side of the street and then we moved across the street. L And that was called Appelman's Army and Navy. SA That's it. 1 Did you work there? SA Me? Oh sure. I started. you know wherei started, as a girl when I came to Salt Lake--what I did? I was in Barnett and Wise Jewelry Store for 5~ years. Never worked a day in my life and I came in and told them that I wanted to |
