Show alberta freshman 2 inter. p.21 They were all lady principals. The women principals were much more for detail than men principal! Now there's hardly a woman principal in Salt lake, very very few. L What is it that brought the change about inyour op1n1on. A I think first people thought men couldn't be good with little youngsters. •' .. L A L A At first. They needed a mother type. And I think that changed. Men too at hom< began to take more responsiblity with the raising of a family than they used to. lAey- Used to be their making of a ~- livelihood was important and that's what they did mainly. And that char:tged some.!nd then the salaries got f1 better and that helped too. And the idea that men could teach lower grades, that changed) peop 1 e' ide as about that. That men were needed just 1 ike my grand nephew saw, Jk ~ ~ a year ago, his mother was talking to his father about getting an older woman in the hous,e_ ,w hen she went to work , t"h e three days she went to work. And he was listening ~ he came in and he said, mom I don't think that's a good idea. I'm with a lady teacher all day and I go to my grandma's or Berta's house r ,, on 4aturday. I really need more exposure to men. So you see if a seven year old will believe that, it's ~ quite a change to have exposure to both male and female. That was never thought of years ago. I think it's good to have both men and womenJbut I don't think that's as important as the kind of teacher you get. Es~e~e-- Especially after the first grade or kindergarden. Was there f ever a time you I regretted not getting married~ When I was in my 40~ I was more interested in it. But tRe- -- thin I was before. C'l~ Maybe I blossomed out later than most people. But no. And I attribute that to· the fact that I always worked with youngsters and so I never felt cheated that I never had a family because they seemed ~ very close to me. And when it was time to leave and go on to another grade, I know I felt like crying. I hated to see them go. For a long, long time. But1 no, and I'm not bitter about never havig marriedJbecause ther are a lot of unseuccessful marriages. Ilve--Aad PArents who come and talk about the other spouse, you know. What they did or didn't do and how unhappy they were and the children were. As you look around you1there are many more unhappy people married than really happy. Ifyou think you're happy married, you're glad. But alot of them aren't anrnowadays divorces are much more nu~~rous ..• than when! was younger. I have aneice who is getting a lt••ltllf.t~~ . . gy __ divorce an~that's been quite a tramat1c exper1ence for all of us. Because it's really the hardest on the littleboy. But no I can't say I'm bitter about it. Andi've been quite independent for many many yers. And I think the problem from |
