Show Alberta Freshman 6-3 p.ll went once a year and that was Yom Kippur and he fasted. But that's all. And I did get a littl~ repercussion on that street at first. My-- I'd be walking home and the dentist's youngesters would yell at me. "Sheeny, sheeny, sheeny" and I hadn't heard the expression1but I knew it was derogatory. And I told mymother. But, she didn't call them or anything and evenutally it stopped. Because we tried to be good citizens and tried to keep our place right and so forth and treat people right. My mother was .very generous with the neighbors. If anything happened, in the way ~ '~<r-J Of someone ~- or was sick, she was always ready to fix a meal o~ give what she could in the way of clothing, or anything that would help. But I had most of the §~~children nschool, as I got older, because I taught in the same district in wich I grew up the first 25 years of my teaching. L What did your mother do during the days, was she home most of the time? A The only time she did anything in the store is when we came to salt lake was at christmas time, she'd come down and she'd-Ret~ also have the see= stock brought home in the way of rings or pins, lockets, and she would do a lot of polishing and cleaning and decided as I "got" older, I'd help. But I never did want to work in the store. When! was older, I'd go down at thristmas and help ~A~R§S keep things in ~t ~ \ order. But I never did like toAsell~anything. So I wasn't much of a help. But my mother didn't care too much for Salt Lake. She wanted much more to go to Calif. ~Mother wasnt well. She had diabete s)very bad. And;fh~Rs 17, I took over the Fe~e= responsibility of her diet and giving her insulinJbecause she couldn't see well enough to know how much she was getting in the syringe. See, it affects your eyes - ~diabetes was bad. And her heart was bad. And Arthritis. It was J...N., ~- r kind of a Reritaey tenaancy, this arthritis. L In the joints. A Yeah, so much inthe way of i..J ,.. ~, . · · ' ~ . B ut I did take the responsibilty of caring for her. And she was in and out of hospitals quite a bit. But she stayed /)4. at home and she was a~immaculate housekeeper and~w onderful cook./~¢/ She had all kindsof patience to ~repare things. She could cut things a~Af~F=as uniformly as a ~asinar .. like a kitchen aid these days that cuts and mixes and everything-she could do it by hand. And she had patience. It ddidn't matter how much silver ~+c.- she'd shine. She had patience to do it.
