I'd go over that and get a little more broadening in scope, you see. L WAs it a very provincial town i nthose years. A Yes, yes. I think it is more so now than in mo£lplaces. Although it has changed alot from what it used to be. Bealte there are many more non-mormoms here than there used to be. But I did get it in college. The ver~est friends I had, that I showed you pictures, we were always together.;AWere taken into soororites ad they told me the reason Iwasn'tJwas.because I was jewish. And at that time, the jewish girls inthe Univ. of Utah established a soroity of Rtte~-eRe- their own.And I was asked to join that1but I wouldn't dot~ it,iecuas I said I didn't hink religion sholdn't enter into it. And that I would be independent. And I remained an independent all the time. L Did that hurt you at that time that you didn't join. A Ye$, it did ·hurt me1 because I could see theothers going to meetings ar parties. And I knew why I wasn't going. Becuasei was jewish and I wouldn't join the jewish soroity and so I was an independent. ~I think I did the right thing. I~e ~~ never been sorry. L Did it make a i difference in your friendships. A No. Because they could have stayedout1 but then they would have missed out. But then I didn't notice that~ much. They were alwa~~riendly to me and we were always very close. And then by go1ng to many summer schools and extension classes, I received my bachelors degree. But of course they wen 'ton for 4 years. L In the 20s, I've been told that K~ Klux Klan was making some headway into the area. Doyou remember~<t"Z; A No, I really don't ... l remember.t B>ut I understand that they're making headway nowadays in Utah. They and theBirch, John Birchers. Which are pretty much alike. But we have little colonies here, I understand.-~t~ are growing. L In looking back, at htose years, 1920s in Utah, do you remember therebeing eth~communities in Salt Lake. A Well, not belonging to the temple ma~t a difference in knowing that. But I know there were quite a few jewsih people in certain vicinities bythe, oh areeau I Atl - .
