Show Esther Landa tape l-s2 5-11-82 p.23 about the whole first semester to do that. And finally, I think the next assingment was to make an apron and when I finished that I remember that the whole class hoisted me on their shoulders and said hip hip horray. So that was an embarassing episode. Lq: So you wre interested in athletics. E: Yeah, yeah. Played ball in the playground out there. L9: Do you remember initiating any activities that most girls didn't initiate? Ball games and E: I don't know if I were the initiator, particularly, maybe I had the ball and the bat so maybe that would make you the initiator. We did everything. Played marbles. Used to be by our back door there was a place that was filled with dirt. I remember playing marbles there, lagging and shooti~g. Sleigh riding in the winter time. Sleigh ride Yale Avenue, it was marvelous-- good hills, great hills. Skating, I never could skate. I went to skate and I took the skates off, I couldn't stand up in the darn things, my ankles wouldn't hold them up. So I gave that up--never could skate. All of my girls learned to skate. (mumbles) Never lerned to ski. I remember trying to ski once down the driveway. My folks weren't very interested in that so we didn't do that. Although my Dad, in his early youth, had a lot to do withthe bicycle races at the original Salt Palace~sed to be down there a lot. And we used to go to a lot of baseball games. L: That's right, they had a good track forbicycles. E: Yeah. And then they had a very good ball field right there on 9th So. ~R,' We used to go to a lot of ball games. b T L e I remem er ony a~~~!!~~~~------ ____: f~.~~t_ - ---___T om.
