| Abstract |
In her interviews with Leslie Kelen, Esther Landa (b. 1912) talks about her childhood, her parents and grandparents, going to school at Mills College during the Depression, and working for a school in public relations. She also speaks of her memories of Jewish refuges in Salt Lake before World War II. She discusses the involvement of her father and grandfather in the Utah Junk Company and in the Eastern Iron and Metal Company (EIMCO). Also included are descriptions of her involvement in community affairs and her thoughts on resentments and tensions between two groups of Jews in Utah. 83 pages. |

And I don't think my uncle can read it to this day. L: So it was a pretty big change from your grandparents to your parents. E: Yeah. I suppose in that sense. L: And moved away -- from being more observant. Did they go less &ten to shul? E: Well, see, I doubt that Montefoire even had--they wouldn't have had Friday night services. They would all have been on Saturday. I don't think my father went very much. If he did, I don't remember. He was a pretty hard worker, he worked a lot. ?: Besides going to shul, do you remember your parents, for ~ample, reading the bible at home or reading biblical stories to you?
