Show Esther Landa Tape 5-11-82 intro: may 11, we're here with Esther Landa. L: Let's begin with background information. Where were you born? E: I was born athome, which was the Nelson Apartments, which was one door removed from Congregation Montefiore, ¢------- on South Third East in :I:~' l Salt Lake City, Utah, on Christmas night, December 25th, 1912~ The Nelson Apartments. There was the Congregation Montefiore, which my grandfather helped found. Then there was Mr. and Mrs. Nelson's home, and next to that, they had an apartment building that still stands. L: Are you the only child? E No, I'm the oldest of three. czr I have a sister five years youn~and a brother five years younger than that. L: What are your parents' names. E My parents were Simon Rosenblatt who was the oldest son of Nathan and 2 Toby Rosenblatt. My mother was Sylvia Liberman of St. Jo~ , Missouri ~ -------- who was the next youngest child of Samuel and Edith Liberman. L: And are your parents first generation Americans or-- immigrants, that is to say? E: My father was born in Denver, Colorado. And I think my mother was born in the old country. But was brought to this country as a baby. So she always said that St. Jo~ , Missouri was her birth place. We always counted that. L: So you're not sure if she was or wasn't. E: Yeah, I kind of think maybe she was born over there and brought here as a baby. Because the next one was born inthis country. Samuel f/ft~rN Liberman. L: That was her brother? E: Yeah, her youngest brother. L: And the names of your brother and sister? :s-~UV\ E: My sister is Barbara Jane Rosenblatt, she's married to Ted Burnett. |
