Show lets"t word I sit in an office strangely quiet and remember how it bustled in early October. Then there were clean desks and plenty of grease pencils. Now the typewriter ribbons are worn completely through and it would be a struggle to fend a piece of carbon paper. But now the book is done and though this particular part of my life and the staff's has come to an end the sum of things goes on. Seeing the office so quiet and lonely, however, makes me realize more than I ever did that while the Utonian is copy and pictures /- and headaches <•- it is most of all people. And to the people who have made the book I want to say thank you. Thank you to Saundra Speers. We shared the frustration and the fun. Thank you to Sherm Harmer who handled crises with unfailing calm. Thank you to the section editors. It was your work that did it. Leigh Ann Best, Pat Denhalter, Fred McQuigg and Kathie Snow could always be depended upon to get a job done. Susan Browning and Kendra Dedekind made up the comedy team of the office. Their cheery notes and sayings kept everyone going during the dark deadline days. The brothers Witucki, Jim and Ernie, were very much a part of the Utonian scene. Dave Albrand was a great help on the color photography and sports pics and Maureen Terashima was always willing to sacrifice her time for the good of the book. Jeanne Koga was perennially creative and cooperative. An extra special thanks must go to Joe Wayman who came through in all the clutches and gave everyone a hand during those agonizing final weeks. Thank you to Publications Council and Milt HoIIstein for their confidence. Thanks too to Bruce Zenger who in addition to everything else gave moral support just when it was needed the most. W^heel-wright s surely deserve a special thank you. The wonderful people there spent many hours in giving professional help. Now the thank you's are done and time and space are fast running out. I just want to say to those who look in the office and wonder if all the work is worth it »-' you II never know what you missed. The Utonian is a great experience. This concludes the 1964 Utonian. We hope you take time to read it through the years. |
