Show Ray Nagel Gridiron mentors were (row 1) Chuck Charfield, Pres Summerhays, Ray Nagel, Ned Alger, (row 2) Pete Carlston and Bob Watson. In his sixth year at Utah, Head Coach Ray Nagel commanded the controls that steered the Redskin eleven to a 4-6 record to surpass predictions of a losing season. Coach Nagel was graduated from UCLA in 1950 where he lettered in football all four years. Under his expert guidance the rambling Redskins handed unexpected defeats to New Mexico, Arizona State and Utah State. They also trounced Colorado State. Coaches Providing valuable knowledge and expert direction for Ute gridders was the Redskin staff of assistant coaches: Ned Alger, former BYU halfback; Pete Carlston, senior member of the staff and All-Conference end for the Hill-toppers in the 1950s; Chuck Chatfield, recruiter for the Redskin team and graduate of the College of Pacific; Pres Summerhays, Ute tailback in the late twenties, All-Conference selection two seasons and an All-America mention his junior year; and Bob Watson, former Uclan fullback and team captain.
