Show FootballFrom the record it is to be seen that Utah had an unusually hard season, one which tallies very closely with last year's, but had this advantage that the team made a thrilling finish and beat two of the hardest teams it had to buck.At the very start the 'Varsity showed inexperience, lack of knowledge of even the fundamentals of the game, poor tackling, lack of zest, and a general debility that was appalling.Harsh critics branded them as quitters and it looked as if the men would finally have to give in to the judgment of the "would be wise" knockers and give up their football ghost.Instead they came back after each defeat, driven by the tremendous power of Coach Norgren and mastering obstacle after obstacle and learning better with each game how to fight, they came from the rear rank and developed into one of the toughest teams in the conference to beat. Cnly one game in the last of the series stood much against Utah. That was the one played against Boulder. In this game the 'Varsity held the heavy Boulder aggregation 0 to 0 until the end of the second quarter, when the light Utah team broke before the strain and were swept off their feet by the determined attack of the Coloradoans. In the fourth quarter they came back fighting hard and prevented the Boulderites from making any more marches down the field for touchdowns. The game with the Boulder aggregation and the one with the Tigers were Utah'ssaddest bits. In the Tiger game the menplayed independent ball, and independence isnot a virtue when it comes time for organizedeffort. The Colorado School of Mines, which laterwon the championship, was all but defeated byUtah in the latter part of the season. Only afluke prevented the Crimson from tying thescore with a possibility to win. However, the real sweet part of the yearwas enacted on Cummings field in the last twogames. The Occidental College veterans whohad beaten us last year, marched confidentlyout onto the sodden field christened after littleDean Byron and there encountered the mostsavage attack of their golden lives. Utahfought them down for down and, although theOxies scored first, they were unable to win,Utah coming back for blood and trouncingthem to a beautiful tune.
