Show VARSITY SWIMMINGVarsity swimming in the western division should really come under the caption, Utah Swimming, for the Utes were the whole show in the only two meets staged during the 1932 aquatic season. Charley Welch's charges outclassed the field so completely that a minute rehearsal would be boring. In the Ute-Aggie dual meet staged in the Deseret Gym natator-ium, the Redskin waterdogs, in course of running up a 63-21 victory, also lowered three marks. Orson Spencer, captain-elect, negotiated the 150-yard backstroke in 1:46 3-5, thereby shaving off 3 3-5 seconds from the old mark. In the 300-yard medley relay, Spencer, Walling, and Forbush turned in a colossal feat with a fine 3:21 1-5, four seconds faster than their own previous booking. Forbush, Sorenson, Huber, and Bringhurst peeled 4-5 of a second from the old 400-yard free style record with their crack 4:08.The Aggies, who did not win a single event in the dual meet, showed some power in the division meet at Logan in finishing second to Utah over Montana with 21 points. Utah scored 53 and the Bobcats 13. Fox, brilliant M. S. C. tankman, copped the 60 and 100-yard free style events, Bishop, Aggies, won the 440 free style and Erkilla, Montana, snatched the 220 free style-otherwise it was all Utah.HMRMMpaMM§HNMNHMn%>--XSmSSimiCaptain TorontoLetter men: Orson Spencer, George Morris, Joe Jacobsen, Francis Forbush, Ray Bringhurst, Ray Owen, Ed Watson, De Leese Tanner, Norman Van Dam, Les Walling, Don Huber, Dwight Guillotte, ToccoySorenson, Arthur Welch, and Douglas Erdman.Page Two Hundred Twenty-nine |
