Show Alden Goates Editor1933 UTONIANThe 1933 Utonian is the Scenic Utah volume, planned for the purpose of inducing a thorough appreciation for the natural beauty of the state of Utah. The primary aim of the Utonian is to present a complete review of the college year, recording fully and unbiasedly the events and personalities, in order that in years to come dim memories of your University life may be revived and clarified. With that purpose in mind we have strived to give a graphic reproduction of the year 1931-32 that its many joys of learning and friendship may be before you always. We have assumed the privilege of translating through the medium of arrangement, art work, and interpretation, an influencing spirit upon the students of this institution-that of Scenic Utah. This subject was chosen because the preponderance of an education has been offset and enlarged by the influence of the gentleness and incomparable beauties that have developed through the processes of nature. The art work of this book is the creation of Girard Meeks, who has repeatedly enjoyed renown for his art in University publications. His work is original and is neither radically extreme nor extremely conventional. There are twelve pieces of this art printed in four color process, an innovation in University of Utah annuals. The photography of the book is planned to reproduce an exact replica of the campus and the student life. The traditional prominent Ute section has been incorporated with the snapshot section. The typography is the work of an experienced typographer and employs a modern use of the conventional forms. The mistakes we have made, whether corrected or not, we hope can be overlooked. However, we have tried to create this book along lines representative of Utah college life and its surroundings.Scott Barnes Associate EditorHanford FisherEllison KnightSheffield Van CottThomas HarkerPage One Hundred Fourteen |
