Show - 10- MC: I guess. GT: Um hum. Navajos have come a long ways north haven't they in a pretty short time? MC: Um hum. GT: Did you ever hear, did your folks every tell you about a series of conflicts between Navajos and Utes over in Montezuma Creek? In that area? MC: Um hum. GT: What did they tell you about it? MC: They told me there was a war over there. GT: Over land? MC: I don't know what it was about. GT: Do you know who some of the people were over there, some of of the Utes? MC: No. GT: Did you ever hear anybody talk about John Benow? MC: Yeah. GT: Was he considered one of the leaders of those people over there? MC: Must have been. GT: Must have been. Where did his people go? Where would they be now, the sons and daughters and grandsons be? Would they be up here? MC: In Towaoc, somewhere up here, around here. GT: Uh huh. So they kind of split. Which families up here would have come from over there? MC: Where, Colorado? |
