Show TAPE 5 The following is an interview with Mr. Meyers Cantsee on May 22, 1980 at White Mesa, Utah. The interviewers are Jim Schultz and Greg Thompson, GT: Mr. Cantsee, where were you born? MC: Allen Canyon. GT: In Allen Canyon. Do you know the date that you were born? MC: 1923. GT: 1923. Did you live in Allen Canyon for a number of years before you moved down here to White Mesa? MC: Yes. GT: Uh huh, and did your parents have land up in Allen Canyon? MC: Yes, they have land up there and I still have a little garden planted. GT: I see. You have a garden planted up there? MC: Every year. GT: Every year. Plus a garden planted here in your home. MC: Urn hum. GT: Boy, that takes a lot of work. MC: I know it takes a lot of work. GT: About how large an area of land did your family own up in Allen Canyon, did you know? MC: Ones about 160 acres and one about- I think they're both 160. GT: One hundred and sixty. Now did one come to your mother and one to your father? Were they allotments from the government? MC: Um hum. GT: Do you know when they were allotted to your family? |
