Comments | Argues that Native Americans were descended from the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel, an erroneous view known as "Jewish Indian theory" or "Hebraic Indian theory" that dates back to the late 15th century. This theory rose to prominence during the mid-17th through mid-19th centuries due to renewed interest in biblical history and the belief that contemporary Indigenous peoples could not have been the same ancient peoples who created the monumental earthworks found across North America. Smith cites various linguistic, archaeological, and cultural practices from many different Indigenous groups for his argument. |
