Show Milford Union Pacific Depot--Architectural Description The Milford Union Pacific Depot is a prime example of Mission Style architecture. It is a two story stucco building with a red tile hip roof and two curvilinear cross gables which divide the facade into three bays. There is an arcade with a red tile roof across the first floor of the facade and down the sides of the building which is broken at each of the gables. At each end of the arcade is an elaborate gateway to the short section of arcade which runs down each side of the building. There are six over six double hung sash windows on the second floor, and round headed windows on the first floor, both under the arcade and across the face of the gable. The fan type of window division in each of the arched windows is repeated over doors which are under the arcade. On the second story of the facade of each gable is one long round headed window centered between two double hung sash windows. Two bays of the arcade on the nOr+ h end of the facade are closed and have double hung sash windows. The symmetry of the facade is not repeated on the rear of the building. Only one of the cross gables cuts entirely through the building to form a rear wing. That wing has a curvilinear gable divided by a short chimney stack. There are three one story rear additions of stucco with red tile roofs which are probably original. If any major alterations have been made, they are not evident on the facade. Several of the doors may have been added at a later date, but do not significantly detract from the pattern of the openings to affect the original integrity of the building. Statement of Architectural Significance The Milford Union Pacific Depot is significant as one of the best examples of Mission Style architec~ ~ in Utah. Only isolated examples of the Mission Style ~ IlIiM!- have been bUiit,f;and few of them have th.e accurate detailing and monumental proportions of the depot. |
