Show firmed a development in the area. (above information from John Williams, Director, 5-County Association of Governments) 8. There has been specific interest in purchasing the depot indicated to Union Pacific. ACcording to a Union Pacific real estate representative in Omaha, the railroad has received a number of inquiries from private investors about purchasing the depot. 9. Enclosed is a written expression of interest in purchase from a local investor. This investor was discovered within a week of discussions about the depot; given adequate time and proper advertising, we believe that offers from other hwestors would be forthcoming. The Heritage Foundation feels that the decision to demolish the Milford Depot has been made from a narrow perspective and that alternative solutions to provide for the needs of Union Pacific have not been explored. We request that Union Pacific provide a "holding period" or moratorium of one year, during which time these alternatives can be explored. These would include - a proper feasibility study can be prepared; - development decisions for the Milford area can be confirmed and potential investors can be identified; - a specific written proposal to Union Pacific can be presented by those who wish to preserve the depot. - 3 - |
