UTAH /)4101 TELEPHONE 801/533-5755 Dear Ms. Whittaker: We are pleased to report that the Historic and Cultural Sites Review Conunittee on February 4, 1981 approved the nomination to the National Register of the M[lford Union Pacific Depot. If the Keeper of the National Register accepts the nomination the provisions of the Tax Reform Act of 1976 will apply to the property. The act contains four main provisions for buildings that qualify for tax depreciation, that is, income or conunercia1 properties. The Act: (1) permits a five-year amortization of certified rehabilitation expenses; (2) eliminates business expense deductions for demolition; (3) eliminates accelerated depreciation for structures built on the site of demolished historic structures; (4) provides special depreciation rules when the cost of rehabilitation exceeds $5,000 and the purchase price of the building.
