Show Acting Alone Page 106 Elder Cicerone had been free to venture east again, shake the cobwebs from his legs, get away from his son. Whole new fields of interest were opening up here. For example, there was the matter with that other young university fellow, something that was growing out of, into, and beyond this prospective Temple site thing. But this other project was nicer, more extravagant, more "esoteric," and had far fewer precedents in this or any other world. It bordered on recreation for the Elder; but, diverting as it was, this other prospect promised to be as lucrative as any medium-sized, so-called "serious" business project. A certain question suddenly began to develop in the back of the Elder's mind: Why all this truck with young men your son's age? What are you looking for, Elder? Before he could entertain that question fully, the Elder forced himself to say something out loud. "After the dossier has made it out to the old woman and done its work," he whispered hoarsely to his secretary, "better have Axelrad radio-phone our other young academic friend and get his fat behind back on the right track." "Yes, Elder." |
