The bouncer considered Sam a challenge. Sam considered the bouncer an ache in his drunken heart, that former killer. You could tell that the bouncer was just a little shaky. He said, "Fut the shuck up." It was clear, though, that this shakiness was not caused by Sam. It was a habitual shakiness, you could tell. These professionally violent sorts of guys are always like that. They mete out defeat on such a regular basis that they're always on the lookout for their own. They expect it to come from the most unlikely, the most chubby of parties. The shakier the violent guy, the more dangerous. Now, Sam did not hesitate to fut the shuck up. But, of course, to save face in front of his freshmen (he had to face them every day), Sam took the first opportunity to prance along behind the bouncer, mimicking his walk. And Shannon whispered Sam's address to the bouncer. This particular bouncer was fairly standard equipment for a bar in these parts. Former middleweight worldclass kickboxer; still had the scars from the time he knocked Chuck Norris out of the ring (or vice-versa, or something); able to leap out from behind the bar in a single bound and alight right in the middle of any altercation that might be developing in |
