These examples of the tinsmith's craft may have been made by Christopher Fading, an English immigrant who came to southern Utah in I860. He is said to have peddled his wares from an oxcart until he was able to buy a horse, trading the wares for flour, butter, potatoes, and cheese throughout the southern part of the state, where he became a well-known figure (Kate B. Carter, ed., Our Pioneer Heritage 18 [Salt Lake City: Daughters of Utah Pioneers, 1975]:449). 84 |
