This type of Empire chair was made in the Salt Lake City Public Works shop in 1856 and by cabinetmakers in other shops as well. This is probably the type of "French" chair listed on the 1864 Cabinetmakers' List of Prices for $5 (Deseret News, 7 September 1864). Fig. 72 Center table. Salt Lake City.
