Look at Mile 68 and Mile 69, and see if you have one there? A ( Examining map) Yes, I have one indicated there, with the note " Rapid"; the narrowest point on the river at low water. Q That is at the mouth -- ? A That is just below the mouth of Aztec Creek. That was a rapid which, in our open boat, we had to watch pretty carefully, to avoid being swamped, and was one of the three more difficulty if you might call them that, on this stretch of the river. By The Special Master: Q What were the other two? A Just a few miles above, near the mouth of oak Creek, Mile 71, or thereabouts, was one of the others. And then what we called Whirlpool Rapids, which was not far below Halls Crossing. There all the boats shipped some water. |
