Show 6034 479 Stabler - D 4037 Q What does the Conservation Branch of the Survey deal with? A The classification of the public lands, in respect of minerals, power, agriculture, and the leasing of mineral lands; the engineering supervision of power permits and licenses under the jurisdiction of the Secretary of the Interior. Q Generally, what has been your training for that position? A I was trained as an engineer in a school. Most of my training since that has been professional work for the Gorvernment. I entered the Geological Survey in 1903, and have been with the Geological Survey and the Reclamation Service ever since. Q Does that Department also deal with the surveys of rivers? A Yes; that is part of our classification for power purposes -- or, rather, preliminary work to the classifica-tion. Q Can you explain please, in you own way, just what these profile plans of the river which are included in Exhibit 10 over there ( indicating) represent? The Witness. Is this it ( indicating)? By Mr. Blackmar: Q Yes, I have particular reference to the profile sheets. |
