Show have been richer than those of later times. Addressing this issue with paleontological data requires that differing faunal assemblage sizes be taken into account, since the number of taxa in paleontological assemblages is routinely both positively and highly correlated with sample size. Taking sample sizes into account shows that the latest Pleistocene and Early Holocene assemblages from Homestead Cave are, in fact, richer than Middle and Late Holocene assemblages, just as our understanding of the interrelationships between moisture levels and small mammal ecology in arid settings pre diets. |
