Show WATER FOR UTAH for production of ammonium sulphate and triple superphosphate and at Pocatello, Idaho, for the production of superphosphate; and that of West- vaco Chlorine Products Corporation near Pocatello, Idaho, for the electric furnace production of elemental phosphorus. Another nationally known chemical concern is rumored to be considering the establishment of major units for the production of elemental phosphorus in Utah, with a potential production of the level indicated in the preceding paragraphs. The adequacy of power supplies will govern the beginning of this projected operation. It has been said that the Nation's destiny lies in the upper six inches of its soil cover; wash and blow it away by soil erosion, deplete its plant food content and the Nation will be unable to meet its obligations for the growing of food and fibers for future generations. The western resources of phosphatic rock, potash and coal are inestimable in value in the preservation of the all- important life- sustaining soil cover of the United States. It is an obligation to future generations, therefore, which makes imperative the development of Utah's minerals, basic to fertilizer production. For this, power generation and transmission in large blocks at low cost are urgent. [ 76] |
