Show All of the committee members have a deep personal interest in ground water and several a life- long experience in various aspects of the development of Utah's underground water resources. Dean Hansen has been a well- recognized authority on ground water for more than twenty- five years. Dr. Thomas has been directly in charge of ground water investigations in Utah for the U. S. Geological Survey for a period of over twenty years and most of the published papers and reports on ground water in Utah have come from his hand. He is also the author of a recent book, " The Conservation of Ground Water" ( 1951) published by McGraw- Hill. Professor Marsell has been a ground water consultant for the past twenty- five years and teaches courses in ground water geology at the University of Utah. In addition to the five regular sessions held by the committee, several of its members have discussed the five problems, assigned to it by the Legislative Council for study, with representatives of many important water users associations throughout the state. Senator Gronning, on his own time and expense, met during the period of the committee's activities with groups of ground water users at Milford, Flowell and Fillmore. Similarly, Professor Marsell, during a three month leave of absence from the University of Utah, conducted ground water investigations, and attended many field conferences with ground water users from one end of the state to the other- Box Elder, Davis, Salt Lake, Juab, Millard, Carbon, Iron, and Washington Counties, to name just a few. The committee, therefore, without any cost whatsoever to the state, received the benefit in their deliberations of these direct contacts with water users. Committee Findings In the general deliberations and discussions that followed the reading of the " final draft" of the member reports, all of the problems submitted to the committee by the Legislative Council were given a final review and the following conclusions were reaffirmed by the committee: - 7- |
