Show Construction Activities An office has been opened at Gunnison, Colorado, and precon-struction surveys and detailed borrow pit explorations are underway. The Bureau of Reclamation has entered into a contract with the State of Colorado for the relocation of U.S. Highway 50 around Blue Mesa Dam and Reservoir sites. The State has let the relocation contract and work is well underway. Bids for the prime contract for construction of the 340 foot high, earth and rock fill Blue Mesa Dam are planned to be opened in March, 1962. Advance Planning The supplemental report on the economic justification of the Crystal Dam and Power Plant and its effect on the justification of Blue Mesa and Morrow Point Dams is being prepared. Completion of the report has been delayed until April 1962 in order to permit consideration of underground powerplants at Morrow Point and Crystal. 5. Transmission Division The purpose of the Transmission Division is to deliver Colorado River Storage Project power to major load centers or to delivery points from which other agencies may transmit the power to load centers, and to interconnect the generating plants of the Colorado River Storage Project with each other and with other Federal projects. Construction Activities The Congress approved the expenditure of $13,673,000 from the fiscal year 1962 appropriation to be used for surveys and construction work on the Federal transmission system for the storage project. With a portion of these appropriated funds construction is being continued on lines started in fiscal year 1961. Construction of lines from Flaming Gorge Dam eastward as far as the Kremmling and Green Mountain area in western Colorado is underway. Construction is in its early stages on the lines from Glen Canyon to Shiprock, New Mexico, and from Gunnison to the Blue Mesa Damsite. D. AUTHORIZED PARTICIPATING PROJECTS Of the eleven participating projects authorized by Public Law 485, five are in Colorado, one is in New Mexico, two are in Utah, and three are located in Wyoming.
