Show Congress for the construction of the Storage Units and participating projects authorized for construction in Public Law 485, as well as funds for the investigations of additional participating projects that are given priority in planning in the Colorado River Storage Project Act. As part of this cooperation, the Commission's Executive Director has been in Washington, D.C. at intermittent periods acting as liaison between the Congress and States and various departments of Government, supplying information, arranging and taking part in Congressional hearings, and providing other assistance requested. The Relief Model of the Upper Colorado River Basin and adjacent areas has been on display in the City-County Building in Provo, Utah. It continues to attract many interested individuals and groups, especially tourists from other parts of the country. (See picture last page of this report). The Commission has produced a motion picture on the recreational benefits of reclamation reservoirs of the Storage Units and participating projects, presently authorized and potential, in the Upper Colorado River Basin. Twenty-six prints of the picture titled "The Lakes Made For You" were secured. The Bureau of Reclamation purchased fifteen of these prints for distribution through channels available to it. One print was furnished to each of the four States represented on the Commission, and the remaining prints are available in the office of the Commission. Any of these films may be obtained for showing by contacting the Bureau of Reclamation, Region 4 office, individual State Commissioners, or the Commission's office. Those persons who have viewed the picture have been very enthusiastic about it. The film is entertaining, educational, and well worth seeing. Meeting in Denver, Colorado on December 15, 1960 The Upper Colorado River Commission held a special meeting in Denver, Colorado on December 15, 1960. The Governors and Congressional Delegations of the four Upper Division States were issued special invitations to attend by Senator Clinton P. Anderson, Congressman Wayne N. Aspinall and Mr. Robert J. Newell, Chairman of the Upper Colorado River Commission. The primary purpose of the meeting was to provide the opportunity for a discussion of the reclamation program of the 87th Congress as it relates to the four Upper Division States of the Colorado River Basin and for the coordination of efforts leading to the authorization of new projects and the appropriation of funds for projects under construction or investigation. 36 |
