Sweazey, <br> Virden, Ill. <br><br> Dear Mr. Sweazey:- <br><br> Your letter of the 12th inst. is at hand. It relieves me a good deal to know that you are willing to allow yourself to be considered for the place which I plan to vacate. I shall feel almost jealous of any person in that position. It has been mine for so long! In laying it down for such work as I am planning to take up, if feel that I shall be taking a backward step in the community. That is an honorable position,- one which gives a man a recognized standing. My new work will not be looked up in the same light. Although perfectly honorable, it is regarded as strictly business without much moral or ethical bearing. I think I told you that I was going to take up life insurance. <br><br> I did not expect you to go farther than you did in reply to my letter. I expected you to make any reply contingent upon the consent of the college board. I went to see Dr. McNiece on receipt of your letter. We talked the situation over and he said a meeting of the college board had been called for Thursday of this week. Dr. McAfee will also be here that day, and some definite steps will doubtless be taken. I shall lay my plans before him and make my recommendations. You may then expect to hear from him and the college board in a way that will give you something definite to act up-on. <br><br> With reference to the Octagon would say that we shall probably not vacate it for some time.
