Show HARRY A. MOYER ovember 22 2002 pressed charges against the guy, and I would have shot him if I could hav ! That' h w I felt at the time, you know. Because if you leave a guy in a situation like that that s "Desertion in the face of the enemy." Anyway. But that all passed off, and I got back alright, this and that, and they got this guy out of there. But there is a replacement pilot that had no combat experience. And he was probably competent as a pilot, but not what as we might refer to, as a fighter pilot! There's a difference between flying a fighter - in my opinion - and taking a fighter and flying it into combat, and fighting. And there' s a difference. So I hope that answers you question, because some guys have it, and some guys didn't. BEN: Every time you picked up a new one, were you worried about that happening? HAR: I didn't pick up too many, that was the only guy that I had. All the other guys I'd come over with, we always flew together. That was the only new guy that I ever had to break in, and he turned out to be a disappointment. BEN: Did it ever - when you describe that whole escaping - did it ever seem like a game, you know? It almost seems like ... HAR: In retrospect, yeah, it is a game! They're trying to knock me out, and I'm trying to escape! And as I say, the jigging- the situation, as soon as you find out what those 88's are doing, you know they're tracking you all the time, and until they burst around you, you didn't know. They were either high, or off to the side, or what not, and then you could take your evasive action, which I knew I was in deep trouble when I was that far in, and low, and getting all that ground stuff. 75 |
