| Abstract |
Moyer (b. 1920) was in the aviation cadet program at the University of Akron at the time of Pearl Harbor. He was called to active duty in January 1942. He discusses his flight training at length. Other topics covered include joining the 33rd Fighter Group, Africa and Sicily, aerial combat, his views on General Montgomery, contact with Sicilian civilians, the merits of various aircraft, Anzio, being stationed in China, marriage, and duty as a flight instructor. 115 pages. |

Show HARRY A. MOYER ovember 22 2002 HAR: Keep on coming! "Come on guy," you know! I'm firing at this 109 and he getting the one in front of him! BEN: Like chasing people on horses, like the cowboy days! HAR: So that was my first 1 09 kill - I shot this guy down. BEN: Now, did you shoot him down because you out-maneuvered him? HAR:No. BEN: Not not of good as a pilot, do you think, or? HAR: On his tail, and blasted him out of the sky. BEN: Did he see you coming at all, or did you get the jump on him? So did he just ground in, or did he bail out? HAR: No, no, nothing like that. I guess there must have there must have been some oxygen bottles behind his armor plate, I must of hit that, because he blew. But that was really funny, because that Spite fire could have been a 109 as far as I knew. I didn't know he was back then! BEN: Your wing didn't see them either, I guess just .. . HAR: Well, he had altitude and they passed him so .. . BEN: Was he solo? HAR: Yeah. BEN: Did you see by any chance if you got him, if you got the other one, just out curiosity? HAR: I didn't see, no. The other guy was pretty far ahead. I was only content in what 66 |
