"Thought you'd carried in a bob k i t t e n for sure the way i t yowls." He turned to his father. "You ever hear a baby cry l i k e that?" uad shook his head. "Boy huh? Good-looking kid, but he sure can make an awful noise." Bill put the spoon down and tipped the cup up to the baby's mouth. The baby finished the l a s t b i t , swallowing it in big gulps-. Walking back to the stove Bill wet his finger witk.his tongue and quickly touched the oven door;- It sizzled, and he shoved the big pan of biscuits inv Then he worked f a s t , s l i c ing the piece of tenderloin into thick steaks. He slapped them down into a big black iron frying pan that was sizzling hot. Next he cut the l i v e r thinner and put i t on to fry. The two ends of the tenderloin, he put in a pan and, going to the water bucket1, dipped some water into i t , saying, "Don't suppose babies can l i v e on bread and water.'1 Tiny stood up, "¥ou don't aim to feed that kid here a ll winter?
