Bill joined the group that xras getting big and loud now. Tomorrow he'd take up buying flour but tonight- The rest of the night Bill relished the freedom from the weeks of being cabin bound, watched the card games, and heard what practically everyone had to say about the blizzards and how steams were paying. Jan played his fiddle towards morning, and the men sang "Katie Strang" and "Three Grains of Corn", and it was like old times when they were all stomping and dancing the New Year in. Goin back in the snow res easier. Sunny fell asleep again and started to snore, so the rest of them piled out and pushed when they came to the slow places; the snow had stiff ened up though, and they had their trail to ..follow so it was a pleasant ride back. Back in the cabin Bill hurried around getting the banked fire going again and Little Bill*; heavy clothes off. It always seemed so good to him to get back to his cabin after an evening away? but the pleasure was dampened some this moming~$73?00 for 25 pounds of flour by the first of January was the highest he'd ever known it even in '76 when there'd been great hardship. |
