Epilog: The historical characters and events of this tale are true. The story is fiction. The Comstock lode strike, which was immediately to follow, was one of the richest deposits of silver and gold in the world. The setting of the story, in what was then Utah Territory, was called at this time Washoe country. In 1861 the territory was divided and the western part named Nevada. |
