The next morning, though, he xjas gone xrhen Bill got up to make the f i r e. Weasel and Sunny came back from screening that night and s t i l l Olaf hadn't come back. They had finished their supper and xrere s t i l l s i t t i n g at the table when Olaf xtalked in. "You must have smelled supper," Bill said getting up and spooning up some stexr for Olaf. Olaf sat doxm and started eating. "Didn't see a l i v i n ' thing. Trouble was I xias afraid to go far enough south into the desert. I t ' s snowed heavier there than I ' v e ever knoxm i t to, drifted too, and hard to get through on a day like t h i s . I t ' l l melt faster over there too, though, and I ' l l try i t again in a day or txro. Bill continued to go out every morning before day-break |
