R. 2397. His next experience on the Green River was in 1922 when he made a trip with the Geological Survey, in charge of K. W. Trimble, for the purpose of taking topography and surveying dam sites. Witness was head boatman. The expedition started at Green River, Wyoming, and terminated in Gray Canyon. R. 2398. " Q Now, you have heard these other witnesses detail their difficulties in that section of the river. Is that substantially the troubles that you had there with reference to rapids, and so forth? " A Yes sir." R. 2398- 2399. His next experience on the Green and the Colorado Rivers was [ September 1st, 1929] when he accompanied Mr. Archie Ryan and Colorado Dent on a trip from the mouth of North Wash on the Colorado River to Lees Ferry. R. 2399. He went to North Wash overland by way of Hanksville and has the boat in readiness when Mr. Ryan and Colonel Dent arrived. The boat was sixteen feet long, semi- keel, round bottom, and square end, propelled with an Evinrude motor. The boat was obtained through R. R. Woolley of the Geological Survey at Salt Lake City. The boat was taken from Salt Lake. He started with the boat at Greenriver, Utah, and took it to the mouth of North Wash overland by way of Hanksville, repaired it and launched it on the Colorado River at the mouth of North Wash and from there traveled down the river in the boat to Lees Ferry.
