Sand bars are very numerous and the water is very shallow and they had a great deal of trouble with the sand bars. Just below Hite the sand bars are very numerous but just before Lees Ferry is reached he didn't observe any sand bars. " Q Did you run into any more riffles or rapids through there? " A Oh, yes, below Cataract canyon- you mean just after we left Hite? " Q Yes, between there and Lees Ferry. " A That is rather vague in my mind; I am not sure of that." He was a boatman for the party. R. 2203. He did not see any boats or people in boats on the river, nor did he meet any people who were living along the river. R. 2203- 2204. He does not recall date upon which he reached Lees Ferry but knows the expedition was ten or eleven days behind schedule because of low water and difficulty in navigating the stream. There was a film made of the expedition but he understands that it is tied up in New York because of litigation and has not been released. There was one private showing of a good deal of the film at the Bray Studio - the Metropolitan studio, upon his arrival, after the trip was finished. R. 2304. |
